One of the key features of HMO that I like is the quick benefits especially for accidents. We don’t want to experience it but in any case that we might, a good health card will be helpful. Let’s see which HMOs are good for accidents and injuries.
What Hmo Type Is Right For You?
Select one of the following options:
HMO for Accidents
Medicard
One of the choices I made is the Medicard VIP. There is a standard benefit but if you wish to have coverage for accidents, it includes Php 50,000 (ward) to Php 200,000 (suite) additional limit for accidents alone.
Price: Starts from Php 25,379
Maxicare
Maxicare is strong when it comes to prepaid HMOs. Would you believe that affordable cards also come with accident coverage? When you buy the Maxicare Prima Gold, there is a Group life with Accidental Death, Dismemberment & Disablement (ADD&D) which covers up to ₱50,000.
Price: Php 16,888
Philcare
Philcare indicates that accidents are covered. We assume that it does not discriminate what type or what injuries are present with the member. However, there is an exclusion for stroke related injuries.
Price: Varies per plan
Valucare
Accident is a common benefit among HMOs. Valucare has a certain condition before you can get covered. For example in a motorcycle incident, the company will only cover the member if there is a police report that says the member is NOT at fault that led to the accident.
Price: Varies per plan
No one will ever know of an upcoming accident. It is much better to be prepared with a reliable HMO. Not only it covers your hospital expenses but also gives you peace of mind.
What Are My Choices?
We cannot predict the future. That’s why preparing for unwanted events can make a difference especially with expenses. You have two choices when it comes to health coverage which is comprehensive and prepaid health cards.
Important Benefits
When you choose a health card, always remember these three factors.
Emergency Room Expenses
Treatment at an emergency room is critical for accidents. With a health card, all the expenses in the hospital will be covered. Doctors fees, medication, diagnostic tests and the ER fee are all included in most plans.
Of course, once the doctor has instructed that you need confinement, you can also use your account subject to its maximum benefit limit.
Surgery
Now this is where it can get tricky. We are all aware that health cards have limitations. I found that the basic plans only cover up to Php 250,000 which may not be enough for surgeries.
Room and Board
Just like health insurance, you can expect your plan to cover the payments for room and board when you get admitted. Accommodation is the usual standard benefit in almost all HMO plans.
What Are Covered?
Any forms of accidents, car accidents, work related injuries and even those due to natural disasters are covered. But they may also involve injuries like broken bones, severe bleeding and sometimes even death.
Read first the fine print of each plan so you can decide whether your risks in life are included in the set of benefits.
