The moment we wake up, fix breakfast and go to work, everything that we do involves physical body movement. But in my case, an injury at the back prevented me from doing these things. Is there an HMO that can help?
What Hmo Type Is Right For You?
Select one of the following options:
Physical Therapy Coverage of HMO
In the Philippines, HMO includes physical therapy benefits up to 6 sessions. Note that this is not the fixed number of coverage. Some plans even go beyond as much as 15 sessions per individual per year.
Accidents
If your injury is due to unforeseen events, say for example a car accident, then you can avail more than 6 sessions.
Illness
On the other hand, disorders coming from pre-existing conditions may involve a limited number of treatments for physical well-being. For example, this may be applied to a stroke patient.
List of HMOs for with Physical Therapy
Almost all of the existing companies in the country have this benefit. I found out that most health cards cover this medical procedure. Here are some of them:
Valucare – Covers up to 10 sessions
Medicard – The therapy is covered even at the Medicard Lifestyle Center (included in the benefits list under Medicard Select.
Avega – The company covers the therapy and has an assigned orthopedic clinic
Philcare – Physical therapy sessions are covered
Eastwest Healthcare – Also covers the medical procedure
Maxicare – One of our research results involved a member who was able to get up to 6 sessions at a Makati hospital.
You may benefit from physical therapy after an injury, surgery or a medical condition. According to Web MD’s article, the therapy is for you to relieve pain if there is any and allow you to move just like before.
What Has the Most Number of Sessions?
It really depends. If you have an employer’s account, the number of treatment sessions are higher. For individual and family plan holders, the limit may be 6 to a maximum of 15.
What HMO to Get?
If you are still deciding on getting a health card, why don’t you start comparing the annual fees of HMOs. It all depends on your budget and needs. Of course, the more benefits you want, the higher your monthly or annual expenses would be to cover your health card bill.
More Than Consumed MBL
Some patients may need more than what the health card can cover. I for example had to undergo a full year of PT sessions twice a week for my lumbar spine injury. I had to pay for the exceeding therapies on my own. Each PT session costs Php 700 so you can just imagine how helpful it is to have an HMO.
Final Words
We cannot predict our future. That’s why having an HMO on the side can be of big help for medical expenses. Accidents may happen all the time and to protect you from fees, you can use your health card if available. Learn more about your account and see how many sessions are allocated for you.
