We are used to hearing the term MRI scan and relate it to cancer. However, this is not true because the test is done to diagnose any types of problems in the internal organs, tissues and bones.
What Hmo Type Is Right For You?
Select one of the following options:
Is MRI Covered by Health Cards?
In the Philippines, MRI coverage by HMO has a certain amount limit based on your plan. See the list of health cards and their coverage amount that I have found.
- Etiqa – MyLife+ Plan covers MRI
- Medicard – Up to Php 5,000 coverage
- Maxicare – MRI is covered based on plan type (accredited hospitals and doctors only)
- Philcare – Inner limit of Php 5,000
- Valucare – MRI is covered up to Php 5,000 per session
Do you think the coverage price is enough? Many of our readers here ask about MRI or CT Scan coverage but not all HMOs offer it.
How Much is MRI
In the Philippines, the price of this test is from Php 5,800 and above depending on the body part that requires it. Your doctor will specify whether you need plain or with contrast. The plain type is cheaper than with contrast.
How Many Times Can I Use My Card?
We learned that many of these HMOs will only cover MRI at a limited amount per year per illness. For example, you can use your card to cover the first scan. However, you may need to pay in cash for the second MRI if the doctor prescribed it again within the year.
It is best to look at the fine print of your health card plan to see the price of MRI covered within a specific period. Look for other medical tests covered by HMO to prepare your budget.
Is MRI Benefit Transferable?
Only the health card owner will be able to use the benefit. However, if you have dependents under your primary account, they too can enjoy coverage for MRI.
I haven’t heard of a way to transfer the diagnostic procedure to another family member.
