Leaving My Company: Will I Still Have HMO Benefits?

I usually receive questions about employment and health cards. One of them is whether they are entitled to the same benefits if they leave the company. Read on and find out if you can still use your HMO account.

Using Health Card After Employment

Can I still use my health card if I resign from the company? If you are rendering, you can still use your account up to your last day. Usually, this is stated in your employees’ guidelines.

For example, you may want to use your plan in any of the HMO covered medical test as a routine exam. Or, you wish to consult with accredited doctors about your symptoms. If you are not sure, you may get in touch with your HR for clarifications.

Is it Illegal?

I’ve heard stories about previous employees who were able to use their health card even if they no longer work for the company. Personally, it borders on unethical and it is up to the person to use it or not. In one case however, the employee was charged with a fee when the company he worked for found his transactions after resignation.

The article from The Balance pointed out that most employee benefits are also terminated on the last day of work or at the end of the month. In the Philippines, it may vary since companies have different ways to take care of their workers.

What’s My Option?

Since you are part of a group health plan from the employee, why not contact the HMO company? For sure, you can convert your account to an individual plan so you can continue enjoying the medical benefits you once had.

Employee Benefits

A lot of you probably benefit from health card access through your company. In the Philippines, this has become a standard practice where workers are entitled to health care. It is a part of their benefits which protect both parties.

Final Thoughts

We all want the most out of our health benefits. But sadly, some people do not know the difference between decency and rights. If you think it is unethical that you can still use your card when you leave the company, then don’t use it. The best thing to do is to verify it with your human resources manager before your last day at work.
