Curious if you can enroll your same-sex partner to an HMO account? Yes, it is possible. In fact, you can have dependents from LGBT under a principal account without paying too much. Let’s take a look.
What Hmo Type Is Right For You?
Select one of the following options:
Who Can Avail?
Same-sex couples can enroll in an HMO account for both voluntary and company accounts. You just have to look for a provider which accommodate this set up.
You should be reminded however that some of them have the same sex partner to be in the bottom hierarchy as I have observed. Companies still follow the traditional hierarchy of beneficiaries especially within a family.
HMOs with LGBT Acceptance
Maxicare
This is one of the few HMOs that has good same-sex couple benefits under an account. You just have to provide proof that you have been living together for at least 6 months.
In most cases, HMOs and health insurance plans restrict the beneficiaries only within immediate family members like parents, siblings and children.
Now, there is an option for you to include your same-sex partner if you belong to the LGBT group. This means you can get the most out of your money’s worth should health emergencies arise.
Coverage Limits
The same coverage amount and benefits are available to dependents no matter the gender is. As long as your principal account is of good standing, the dependents can expect the same quality of service.
As of the moment, this is the only health card that I have discovered accepting LGBT dependents. This list will be updated soon as I talk to agents.
