HIV and AIDS diagnosis may require lifelong treatment and, therefore expenses. Are there any HMOs that cover such disease? Take a look at the list I created for your reference.
What Hmo Type Is Right For You?
Select one of the following options:
Etiqa
The health plan from Etiqa can be a good option since it covers up to 30% of HIV treatment. This is subject of course to the annual maximum limit of the plan.
Maxicare
For matters like HIV infections, one has to deal with a number of lab tests. This is where Maxicare’s prepaid card may become useful.
Prima Gold offers unlimited diagnostic tests including HIV Ag/AB. But for treatment cases, I am yet to find out how people with confirmed positive status may benefit.
I haven’t found an HMO that specifically covers AIDS or even HIV at a 100% rate. The good news is that some parts of the expenses are covered.
How about other cards?
As of the moment, I have only found 2 health cards that include HIV in their benefits.
Most HMOs consider the disease as a pre-existing condition thus limiting their coverage for it. But you can still find a health card that at least covers a part of your treatment plan.
Are there ways to reduce the cost?
Some health insurance companies also have a program for HIV patients. You may want to check your policy if you have been paying your premiums on time.
Philhealth has a dedicated benefit for patients with the said condition. I’ve found this memo from the agency that covers up to Php 30,000 per year.
