Price Quote of HMO: How Much to Pay

We are all busy and do not have time to meet an HMO agent. Let me give you some factors and possible rates from the usual HMO price quotes.

Not all websites have built in price quote calculators. Their agents can help you find the cheapest one for your needs.

What will make the price of health card more expensive?

The final rate that you have to pay will be based on the following:

Your age – The older you are, the higher your monthly premium will be. Starting 40 years old, the quote will be higher.

Existing condition – A lot of HMOs will try to avoid covering your pre-existing conditions. However, they can still include it in your benefits, only with lower price. Those with diabetes, hypertension and even cancer may not be able to maximize the full coverage or you will have to pay.

Smoker – Yes, you will sometimes be asked whether you smoke or not. In one website, you can check this option and the annual fee will increase. Don’t try to cheat because they will know about it later.

Dental care – I usually do not need this option but the quote that you will receive will also be higher because of this. Choose it if you want to include a prophylaxis or a single pasta session per year.

Many of the health card companies in our country has a built in price quote tool in their website. But it can be difficult to compare each one of them from different screens and windows.

Compare Rates

Here’s a comparison of the more affordable price quotes from agents:

Maxicare

Php 22,000 (silver plan, young age, no dental). This is one of the most basic plans but an agent may adjust the price based on your profile.

Medicard

Php 10, 739 (basic coverage, no need for deposit when admitted, diagnostic tests will be covered up to Php 5,000)

Pacific Cross

This one is a bit different because you cannot use it instantly. It will only be useful if your existing other HMO coverage is already consumed. You need to ask for a direct quote for this. The good thin is you can avail of the MBL of Php 2 Million.

Valucare

A Valucare price quote is usually not available online because it usually caters to company members. As of the moment, there is a minimum of 20 employees to qualify for an account.

Also, some agents will require you to meet with them personally. This is ok for those who are not busy. But most of the time, scheduled appointments are cancelled.

Fixed Price (Prepaid Health Cards)

Aside from fixed and comprehensive plans, why don’t you look at prepaid cards as well? They usually have average coverage but at least they are affordable.

In fact, one of my first HMO is a prepaid card. Thankfully I do not need to use it yet. Fingers crossed.
