Dreaded Diseases Covered by HMOs

Critical illnesses can be scary. Have you applied for an HMO in the Philippines? See what diseases may be covered by your plan.

It is difficult to come up with all the dreaded diseases that our HMO can cover. But we are already familiar with some and I have listed them here just to give you a quick info.

Heart Attack

This is usually sudden and your trip to the ER will be included in an HMO plan. As you can see, emergency room coverage is among the basic benefits that you can get from any health plan so you are covered if this happens. Heart attack coverage may include angioplasty, confinement and surgeon’s fees.

Cancer

As one of the major dreaded diseases, this may come as the top concern for most of us. HMOs can cover your treatment for this disease especially during the diagnostic stage. I’ve seen major card covering MRI and CT scan just to name a few.

Stroke

This one required prompt medical attention and is time sensitive. The more you wait to get medical help, the greater the possible damage to the brain. In such a case, it is good to choose a plan that has better emergency room coverage.

Here are some of the best HMOs that you can get to cover dreaded diseases:

  1. Etiqa: The company does not discriminate against dreaded diseases as long as you initially use government insurance. Their plan supports you on top of the Philhealth coverage no matter what the disease may be.

2. Medicard: Coverage up to Php 60,000 for semi private plan. Most of their packages have coverage for dreaded diseases up to MBL.

3. Maxicare: Depending on your plan from Silver to Platinum, dreaded disease expenses will be covered up to Php 250,000.

4. Cocolife Aruga: This special health plan covers all major three critical illnesses (stroke, heart attack cancer). Cash benefits will be given but terms and conditions apply.

I noticed that there are some cards that specifically do not cover stroke related injuries for an ER case. This of course depends on the plan you availed. If your initial assessment shows that you are at high risk for stroke, get a card that covers it.

For heart attack, the initial coverage will come in the form of ER services. We usually see this clause in most health cards which is practical for heart attack cases.
